At the Farm Progress Show in Boone, Brazilian robotics company Solinftec unveiled its latest innovation that promises to transform the landscape of precision agriculture: an autonomous docking station for its Solix agricultural spraying robot.
The Solix robot, introduced just over a year ago, has already made waves in the farming community with its solar-powered, AI-driven approach to crop management. Designed for tasks such as plant scouting and targeted spraying, Solix uses a combination of vision cameras and sensors to navigate fields with precision. The robot's artificial intelligence allows it to identify and control weeds and insects while optimizing the use of chemical pesticides and herbicides.

Guilherme Guiné, Chief Operating Officer for North America at Solinftec, explained the significance of this development: "Each field has unique characteristics that allow for different weeds to appear in the field, depending on the stage of the crop. We designed the docking station to allow Solix to choose the product that will be used based on the recognition of weeds by our artificial intelligence system, ALICE AI, enabling the use of specific products for each unique situation."
The docking station is more than just a refueling point. It's an intelligent system that works in tandem with Solix to analyze field data and make informed decisions about product application. By surveying the entire field at a plant-by-plant level, Solix gathers crucial information on crop health, weed infestation, and specific pests. This data is then used by the docking station to load the correct products and quantities onto the robot.
One of the most impressive features of the docking station is its ability to flush Solix's tanks autonomously and safely, preventing the mixing of chemicals on board. This not only ensures the proper application of products but also maintains the integrity of each chemical solution.
Solinftec's commitment to sustainable farming practices is evident in their goal to reduce chemical usage by up to 95%. The Solix robot and its new docking station are at the forefront of this effort, offering farmers a way to maintain crop health while minimizing environmental impact.
As Solix enters its second year of operations in the United States, Solinftec has been expanding its presence in the North American market. The company has grown its staff and operations, recognizing the importance of this region in the global agricultural landscape.
Looking ahead, Solinftec is already planning for the future iterations of their technology. Guiné shared insights into their testing process: "We plan to equip the station with several products and allow the robot to apply the test concept in the field. Solix has the ability to use a small amount of product in a section of the field and check the crop's response."
This approach to product testing and application could significantly speed up the adoption of new agricultural products. By allowing for small-scale trials that account for the diversity of each field, region, and season, Solinftec is paving the way for more efficient and effective farming practices.
