A real-world example of smart warehouse automation
In recent years, industrial companies have been facing a familiar challenge: how to keep growing without running out of space or overloading their teams. This case study shows how advanced robotics can help solve those everyday manufacturing problems. By bringing in autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), companies can make better use of space, improve safety, and boost efficiency without having to invest in a costly building expansion.
The challenge: growth without space
Danfoss Power Solutions faced a critical bottleneck at its Nordborg facility. Rapid business growth led to a shortage of available floor space, while manual handling of heavy boxes created safety risks and placed physical strain on employees. Expanding the building was not an option, forcing the company to seek a smarter alternative.
“The challenge was that we experienced significant growth over the past year, which resulted in a lack of physical space on our factory floor. Expanding the building wasn’t an option, so we had to come up with a smarter and more creative solution.” — Martin Ole Madsen, Manager Operations Excellence, Danfoss Power Solutions
The solution: integrated robotic logistics
To address these issues, Danfoss collaborated with OMRON, RoboTool, and Nord Modules to deploy a fully automated logistics system. The setup combined LD-90 autonomous mobile robots, an AutoStore storage solution, and an industrial robot. Together, these technologies created a seamless material flow between storage and production, eliminating manual handling entirely.
The results: safety, efficiency, flexibility
The impact was immediate. Manual lifting was removed, significantly improving workplace safety and ergonomics. At the same time, 860 square meters of space were optimized for more efficient production. The system also introduced scalability, allowing operations to adjust quickly to changing demand.
What this means for the future
Danfoss Power Solutions has set a strong example of how innovative automation can solve real industrial challenges. As more manufacturers look for efficient and scalable solutions, platforms like JobToRob make it easier to connect with robotics providers. With over 2,000 robots available for hire, purchase, or lease, it serves as a practical starting point for businesses ready to rethink their operations through automation.
