Intuition Robotics' ElliQ companion robot
The New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) and Intuition Robotics have announced continuing their partnership providing ElliQ, Intuition’s companion robot for the elderly. After deploying ElliQ to over 800 New Yorkers in 2022, new data shows the robot's profound positive impact combating loneliness and supporting wellbeing.
In the pilot program, ElliQ reduced users' loneliness by 95%, with some interacting 30 times daily. Over 75% of engagements also improved users' social, physical, and mental health.
“The results exceed our expectations,” said NYSOFA director Greg Olsen. “The data and stories from across the state are incredible. Seeing ElliQ's life-changing impact is deeply touching.”
Designed to be proactive and empathetic, ElliQ can initiate conversation, suggest activities, set goals, and remember user details to build trust over time. Her AI encourages engagement tailored to each person.
As Intuition CEO Dor Skuler explained, case managers were essential to inform seniors about ElliQ and facilitate installations. “We're excited to continue our work with NYSOFA to reach more individuals ElliQ can assist.”
Since launch, new capabilities were added like museum tours, road trip guidance, and sharing digital memoirs. ElliQ also delivers informational videos from NYSOFA employees about available resources.
ElliQ aims to mitigate loneliness's effects and connect users to caregivers. The robot combines psychology, behavioral science, and advanced AI to provide empathetic support.
Co-developed with Yves Béhar and fuseproject, ElliQ is the culmination of over 5 years of research and testing with elderly users to perfect its emotional intelligence.
NYSOFA's program highlights ElliQ's ability to profoundly and measurably improve seniors' lives. As the elderly population grows, socially assistive robots like ElliQ can provide personalized support to enhance health and wellbeing.
