Ronovo Surgical Raises $50M for Robotic-Assisted Surgery Technology

Ronovo Surgical, a Shanghai-based developer of cross-specialty robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) technology, has successfully closed a new round of financing, bringing its total funds raised to over $50 million since 2020. The latest financing round was led by LongRiver Investments, with participation from existing investors Lilly Asia Ventures, Vivo Capital, Matrix Partners China, and GGV Capital. CEC Capital acted as the exclusive financial advisor for the transaction.

With this new funding, Ronovo is exiting stealth mode and unveiling its inaugural Carina robotic platform. Carina is a modular system built on proprietary technology that enables configurable robotic assistance for laparoscopic surgeries across multiple specialties. The platform was developed in collaboration with renowned Chinese laparoscopic surgeons and addresses numerous pain points in minimally invasive surgeries.

The oversubscribed financing round will accelerate the multi-discipline clinical trial for Carina, strengthen R&D and clinical applications development, and bolster Ronovo's talent base. The company aims to democratize robotic surgery by providing surgeons with the flexibility to choose the best instruments and the most ideal anatomical access, leveraging their prior laparoscopic training to improve surgical performance.

Carina minimizes equipment footprint to maximize the utilization of operating room space, offering surgical teams the choice between three-module or four-module configurations. Surgeons also have access to a full suite of instruments with Carina, making it a versatile and efficient solution for robotic-assisted surgeries.

"We are extremely grateful to our investors for their confidence in Ronovo's strategy to democratize robotic surgery," said Dr. John Ma, founder, chair, and CEO of Ronovo. "From inception, we have stayed true to our belief that innovation must start from an original pursuit to solve actual unmet clinical needs."

As more companies enter the soft-tissue robotic surgery space, Ronovo's Carina robotic platform offers a promising solution for laparoscopic surgeries. With its focus on addressing unmet clinical needs and providing surgeons with flexibility and efficiency, Ronovo is well-positioned to make a significant impact in the field of robotic-assisted surgery. For those looking for a robot job or to hire a robot worker, Ronovo Surgical presents an exciting opportunity in the growing market for surgical robotics.
